Rosalind
Solve real bioinformatics problems with code in any language
Rosalind teaches bioinformatics through problem solving. Each problem comes from a real task in molecular biology, such as counting DNA nucleotides, translating RNA into protein or computing edit distance. You download a dataset, run your own program on it, and submit the answer before a time limit runs out.

About Rosalind
The time limit makes sure you write a general solution before you see the data. Problems are grouped into sets such as Python Village, Bioinformatics Stronghold and Algorithmic Heights, and many build on earlier ones. It suits programmers curious about biology and biology students learning to code.
You can use any language, because your code runs on your own computer. The site is free and has 284 problems. UC San Diego and Saint Petersburg Academic University run it.
On Breakpoint since 23 Oct 2026.
