TypeScript coding challenges

Breakpoint lists 17 sites to practise TypeScript on, link-checked every 12 hours. Updated 26 Oct 2026.

TypeScript practice comes in two flavours. Most sites simply let you solve ordinary problems in TypeScript instead of JavaScript, which helps you get used to annotating functions and data. The more unusual kind is type-level puzzles, where the challenge is to write types, not code: utility types, conditional types and inference, with the compiler as the judge.

If you write TypeScript at work, those type puzzles are the fastest way to understand the library types you already use. For general problem solving, interview banks and kata sites accept TypeScript too, and a track with tests teaches the language's idioms. Each row below notes which kind of practice a site offers. Turn on strict mode wherever a site lets you, since that's how most real projects are set up.

TypeScript coding challenges: common questions

What are type challenges?

Puzzles where you write TypeScript types, not runtime code, to make a set of type tests pass. They teach generics, conditional types and inference far better than reading the handbook.

Can I use TypeScript on coding interview sites?

Yes, on most of them. LeetCode, Codewars and others judge TypeScript, usually by compiling it and running it on Node.js.

Should I learn JavaScript before TypeScript?

It helps. TypeScript is JavaScript with types, so the runtime behaviour is the same; see the JavaScript coding challenges for that side.
