JavaScript coding challenges

Breakpoint lists 44 sites to practise JavaScript on, link-checked every 12 hours. Updated 26 Oct 2026.

JavaScript practice splits into two kinds. Algorithm sites run your code in Node.js and judge it against hidden tests, exactly as they would for Python or Java; that's the path for interview preparation and kata. Front-end challenges instead ask you to build something in the browser, where the DOM, events and CSS are the puzzle and there is no single right answer.

If you're learning the language itself, a track with tests teaches the parts that trip people up: closures, `this`, promises and async code. Interview banks then add speed and pattern recognition. Each row below notes the Node.js version or what the site checks. If you're aiming at front-end work, mix both kinds: algorithms for interviews, browser builds for the job itself.

JavaScript coding challenges: common questions

What's the best way to practise JavaScript problem solving?

Pair a track with tests, for the language's quirks, with a kata site such as Codewars for daily short problems. For interviews, LeetCode and HackerRank both judge JavaScript.

Do these sites run JavaScript in the browser or in Node.js?

Algorithm judges run Node.js on their servers. Front-end challenges run in your browser and check what you build. The note on each row says which.

Can I use TypeScript instead?

On many sites, yes: most judges that accept JavaScript also accept TypeScript. There's a separate list of TypeScript coding challenges, including type-level puzzles.
