Python coding challenges
Breakpoint lists 48 sites to practise Python on, link-checked every 12 hours. Updated 26 Oct 2026.
Python is the language most practice sites support first, so you have more choice here than anywhere else. If you're starting out, a mentored track is the gentlest way in: you solve small exercises, run the tests yourself, and a volunteer reviews how idiomatic your code is. Once list comprehensions and dictionaries feel natural, kata sites and interview banks give you endless short problems, ranked by difficulty.
Python's speed rarely matters on these sites, but it does on contest judges, where a slow loop can time out where C++ passes; most judges loosen limits for Python, and some offer PyPy. Every row below says which Python version a site runs and what's special about it there. After you pass a problem, read a few other people's Python solutions: that's where most of the learning happens.

Python coding challenges: common questions
Where should a Python beginner practise?
- Start with a mentored track such as Exercism's Python track, where exercises come with tests and human feedback. Move to Codewars kata once you can write a function without looking things up.
Is Python fast enough for competitive programming?
- Usually, but not always. Judges such as Codeforces offer PyPy, which is much faster for loops; on very tight limits, contestants switch to C++. For interview-style problems, Python is the most popular choice.
Which Python version do these sites use?
- Almost all run Python 3, typically a recent 3.x release; the note on each row says which, when the site states it. Python 2 is gone from every site listed here.
Other languages: JavaScript · TypeScript · SQL
