Terminus

Explore a fantasy world using ls, cd and other shell commands

Terminus is a text adventure that teaches you basic shell commands. You explore a fantasy world, and the commands are your spells. You use ls to look around, cd to move between places, and less to read things. Later you use commands like mv, touch, cp, rm and grep to solve puzzles with objects and characters.

About Terminus

It suits complete beginners who feel nervous about the terminal. Places work like folders, so you learn how a file system is laid out without any risk to your own computer.

The game runs free in the browser with no account. Michele Pratusevich and Shawn Conrad made it at MIT.

On Breakpoint since 23 Oct 2026.
