Vim Finesse

Transform text into a target state in the fewest Vim keystrokes

Vim Finesse is a set of Vim editing challenges inspired by Tetris finesse, the idea of finding the most efficient key sequence. Each challenge shows a starting text and a target state, and you edit in a browser Vim to reach it in as few keystrokes and as little time as possible.

About Vim Finesse

There are 40 challenges marked easy or medium, such as converting to snake case, swapping function parameters, splitting a long parameter list or deleting every second line. Many use real code snippets, so the edits feel close to daily work. It assumes basic Vim knowledge and suits people moving from knowing commands to choosing the shortest ones.

It is free and runs in the browser. You can play without an account, and logging in adds you to the leaderboards. Players can submit new problems, and there is a tip link.
