Cast Vim commands as spells to clear a pixel-art forest of the Rot
Vimancer is a pixel-art puzzle game where Vim commands are magic. You play a Vimancer crossing a forest consumed by the Rot, and each chapter adds a new school of spells for navigation and environment puzzles. Destruction spells are dw and dd, clairvoyance uses /, ?, # and *, teleportation uses counts with w, $, 0, gg and G, and substitution uses :%s.

About Vimancer
It teaches Normal-mode navigation, deletion, search and substitution. Insert and Visual modes are not covered, and some commands are adapted for play, for example dw removes the whole word wherever the cursor sits. It suits Vim beginners who find tutorials dry.
It is free on itch.io, playable in the browser, with downloads for Windows, macOS and Linux. It was released in April 2026 as a graduate capstone project at Bridgewater State University.
