Halite
Write bots for Two Sigma's grid strategy contest
Halite was an AI programming contest made by Two Sigma. You wrote a bot that played on a grid against other bots, gathering resources and claiming space to grow stronger. The simplest bot took about 10 lines of code, but strong bots needed careful strategy. Results went onto a global leaderboard.

About Halite
It suited a wide range of programmers, from people writing their first bot to experienced players using search and machine learning. You could use the language of your choice.
Three seasons ran on halite.io starting in 2016, and the first was built with a team at Cornell Tech. A fourth, Halite IV, ran on Kaggle. The contest has ended, but the code for the first three seasons is open source on GitHub under the MIT license.
