Bandit is the first wargame on OverTheWire and is made for complete beginners. You connect to a Linux server over SSH from your own terminal. Each level hides the password for the next level somewhere on the system, and you use shell commands to find it.

About OverTheWire Bandit
You learn the command line: moving around files and folders, reading files, searching, and handling data. The game also teaches you to read manual pages and look things up when you are stuck.
No account is needed, and the game is free. You need a terminal with an SSH client. Bandit is the suggested starting point before the other OverTheWire games.
